I would definitely use Kahoot!. My junior high students loved it last year.

I would also use Kahoot!. The students love competition and to see their names highlighted.

A scavenger hunt of the term's topics! Students can find an image that comes to mind when they think of the topic/topics.

Initially log in with zoom. This will give students an opportunity to reconnect with each other or see each other for the first time, say hello, and allow them to express what's on their minds. Secondly, draw them into a game of Kahoot, Quizzizz or any other platform that is in a game format to relax them a bit.

This idea is in line with my own of making the initial entrance a welcome back virtual party, but integrate the do's and don't throughout the connection in a way that they are interactively engaged.
